Incident September 28, 2019

On July 26, I sent a notice saying residents of Huron Woods, per our Bylaw Number 1, should expect “Quiet Enjoyment” of our residences and community. The notice was directed at owners who rent, asking them to take responsibility for renters on their property. However, complaints continue.

For example, another incident occurred on the evening of September 28, 2019 which required notifications to the Municipal By-law Office, OPP, and the Fire Department. Many neighbours of the offending property were directly impacted.

Setting off fireworks that went over neighbour’s homes, especially on a windy evening, unnecessarily puts all residents in danger of fire and needlessly taxes our emergency services personnel. Following is the Municipal Bylaw regarding fireworks. NONE ARE ALLOWED IN HURON WOODS.

By-law 16-2008 Fire Works: The following 2 statements in the By-Law indicate that it would be unlawful to discharge fireworks (without special permits from the Municipality) in the Community of Huron Woods.

“No person shall discharge any family fireworks in such a manner as might create danger or constitute a nuisance to any person or property, or to do or cause or allow any unsafe act or omission at the time and place for the discharging of any fireworks. ”

“No person shall set off any fireworks in the Municipality within 500 feet of any woodlands.”

Owners of the rental properties should post this reminder, as a courtesy to their neighbours. Also suggested is to post the bylaws and/or penalties associated with excessive noise. Owners, you owe it to your neighbours not to disrupt their “Quiet Enjoyment” of our community.

The OPP call for service number is 1-888-310-1122.

The Bylaw Office call for service number is 519-238-5246.

For emergency services call 9-1-1.
