Donate Gently Used Items

Our Garage Sale takes place before our Big Bin event for a reason. It gives us an opportunity to sell or give away household items we no longer need. Very importantly, it helps us declutter without sending those items to landfill. It’s also a safer and easier way of disposing of items since the buyer will take the items away, saving us the aches and pains that may result from loading those items into our vehicles. Here are a couple of options for donating your items for you to consider.

FREE Stuff

Please consider putting items out as Free items. Just place them at the end of your driveway or roadside (but not on the road) with a sign saying ‘FREE’. They can go out a day or two before the Garage Sale, or at any time. This is by far the easiest way to get rid of stuff.

Donation Options

There are a number of options for donating in Grand Bend. Some of them are listed on our website under the ‘Local Service Providers’ in the secured ‘Members’ section. You should check out this helpful new resource if you haven’t already.

  • Clothing and some small household items can be dropped off at Arc Angels in Dashwood or Blessings in Parkhill or Zurich
  • Unfortunately our Re-store in Exeter is temporarily closed as they look for a new facility. Re-stores accept home improvement products and household items. For furniture or large donations they will send a truck.
  • Dale’s Antiques has taken donations of silver and crystal items
  • The Huron Women’s Shelter has a list of items on their website they will take. Click on the link for details.

If you can’t donate or sell your items the Big Bin is an option. We are very fortunate to have a team of volunteers that give up their time to make this day happen. It’s a very popular event and much appreciated by our members. But we seem to fill more bins every year. So please take a moment to look at your donation options.

Wooden Muskoka Chairs for the Clubhouse

As many of us are organizing for the Garage Sale, Big Bin Day or for donations, if you find a few wooden muskoka chairs you no longer need, the clubhouse would love to take them off your hands. We have volunteers who could pick them up from your home and give them a nice coat of paint.

Please contact Bill Redhead at Bill@hwca.ca if you would like to make a chair donation.
