Huron Woods Garage Sale Rain Date

If you’ve checked the weekend forecast, you’ll have noticed there’s a good chance of rain. I’ve had a few emails asking about a rain date — and heard from plenty of folks who are ready to go ahead on Saturday. Rain forecasts can change, and more than once a storm has gone right around us.

We have volunteers ready to put up signs Friday night, so let’s plan on Saturday as scheduled, with Sunday as our rain date. I’ll keep the signs up and use social media to spread the word.

I’ve already posted on the Grand Bend Facebook page and will post again Friday night. If we’re rained out Saturday, I’ll post an update. Janette Baillie has kindly offered to share on various social media pages as well. If you’d like to help spread the word, feel free to use the attached posters.

In the meantime — not sure what to wish for! We really do need rain, so here’s hoping for a good soaking Friday overnight, and a dry Saturday morning.

HWCA Community Garage Sale

Date: Saturday, June 6th
Time: 9 am to noon — feel free to start and finish at your own pace
Location: Your driveway

The Garage Sale takes place just before the Big Bin Event, giving us all a chance to reduce what goes into the bins — and saving you the trouble of hauling items over on Big Bin day.

Many of you have taken part before, as both sellers and buyers. Sellers will likely remember that it was a lot of work — but also a lot of fun, with perhaps more socializing than selling!

Signs will be posted on Hwy 21 at both Pinetree and Beach o’ Pines on the day of the sale. A big thank-you to Beate and Steve Sillery for volunteering to take care of that. I’ll also be promoting the sale on local social media pages.

Free Stuff: You’re welcome to use the Garage Sale as a Free Stuff day too. Simply place any items you’d like to give away at the end of your driveway, clearly labelled FREE. You can even do this before Garage Sale day — there will likely be cars circulating in search of free treasures!

If you want to feature any items you are selling, I will try to put one post up before the sale to let buyers know what they might find. I won’t be able to include everything, but it could be fun to offer a few teasers. Send me an email to angela@hwca.ca with a photo.

Turtle Crossing

It’s that time of year that our turtles are on the move. They often have to cross roads in order lay their eggs and then back again to the channel

If you encounter a turtle on the road, you can help them cross. Here is a short video with some helpful instructions. The technique varies by turtle. Special care must be taken with Snapping Turtles and injured turtles. The video explains how. Click and go!
