Don’t it always seem to go… you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone…

Do you recognize the poetry? Joni Mitchell’s familiar lyrics come to mind when we watch changes taking place to our natural environment, when trees are felled, and land is cleared of natural growth.

Many of us have chosen Huron Woods because of its natural beauty and would like to preserve it for future generations. We are part of an increasingly rare Oak Savanna and are fortunate to live close to the Pinery Provincial Park where the Oak Savanna and related ecosystem is protected. The ecosystem does not entirely stop at the park border and in small ways we can contribute to its preservation.

So, before you start to “tidy up” – maybe take a moment to research and read about the Oak Savanna and Carolinian Forest so you can make informed decisions.

Here is a link to the Pinery’s habitats page so you can learn more about the ecosystem and how privileged we are to live here.
